Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I visit the dentist?

Our general recommendation at Young Family & Cosmetic Dentistry is once every six months, or twice each year. These visits allow Dr. Young to discover any new damage or decay that may have arisen in the early stages of development, and our team can remove dangerous plaque and tartar as well from the teeth and gums. If you’re currently experiencing periodontal (gum) disease or another oral health condition that requires diligent professional maintenance, more frequent visits may be encouraged.

Which tooth replacement option is right for me?

Our Joplin, MO practice offers several excellent options that can rebuild incomplete smiles, including state-of-the-art dental implants, dental bridges, and full and partial dentures. Although dental implants are the most successful and long-lasting choice available, we understand that everyone’s needs and priorities are different. That’s why we’ll work together with you to determine which service is the best fit for your unique situation through an in-depth consultation.

Will I need to see a separate specialist to have my dental implants placed?

No! Dr. Young has the training necessary to surgically place his own dental implants. This means that patients seeking implant treatment can undergo the entire procedure (from initial consultation to the placement of custom-made restorations) in a single, convenient location with a dental team they trust.

Can you improve the way my smile looks?

Of course. Several cosmetic dentistry services are available for your benefit, including porcelain veneers, metal-free restorations, Invisalign treatment, and more. During your initial visit, Dr. Young can help you explore your personal smile goals and determine a plan of action that creates the dazzling improvements you have in mind.

Is it true that a dentist can help treat my sleep apnea?

In many cases, yes! If a patient is suffering from mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, oral appliance therapy is often an effective treatment solution that’s more comfortable and convenient to use than traditional CPAP machines. With Dr. Young’s assistance, many exhausted adults can finally enjoy the high-quality, uninterrupted rest they deserve.

I’m experiencing a lot of pain in my face and jaw. Can you help?

This is typically a symptom of bruxism (teeth grinding) or TMJ disorder, which is why you should let our Joplin team know about it right away. Dr. Young can use state-of-the-art technology to help determine the source of your condition and whether your current bite is problematic for your facial muscles and jaw joints.
